Hockey Rangers Sign 2013 Draft Pick, Pavel Buchnevich by Staff Post May 13, 2016 Pavel Buchnevich (NBC Sports) On the heels of a disappointing season, the New York Rangers have made a move today to bring up one of their most highly anticipated and exciting prospects. 21 year old Russian Pavel Buchnevich was the Rangers third round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and today he officially joins the club on an entry level contract. Buchnevich may be young but he has already made quite an impression during his time playing in Russia. He spent four seasons in the KHL, registering 37 goals and 50 assists in 158 games, including setting career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, game-winning goals, power play goals, and average ice time. Prior to his time in the KHL, Buchnevich spent four years in Russia’s equivalent of the AHL where he had 69 points in 71 games and 41 points in 31 playoff games. In addition to Russian leagues he has also represented Russia on a national level, most recently at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2014 and 2015 where he recorded 13 points in 14 games. This is a ton of experience overseas for such a young kid but now his real test begins as he becomes set to become an NHL’er in the middle of what is going to be a very important Rangers’ offseason. But regardless of what happens this is a kid that fans should get very excited to see play.
