The Nastia Liukin Cup returned to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to showcase some of the U.S.’s top level talent on a national stage. Launched in 2010, the eighth annual competition takes place every March just before the American Cup and is hosted by Nastia Liukin and USA Gymnastics.

Kai Rivers secured the senior title with a 38.650, while Carly Bauman had the top all-around score on the junior side with a 38.425.

Kail Rivers Championship Run

Kail Rivers trailed the leaders until the final rotation, when her fun and flashy floor routine ignited the crowd and earned 9.825 points to propel her from fifth place to first. Rivers stuck her landings, including a double piked Arabian in her first tumbling pass, and showed off some easy, natural dance moves.

“The competition was insane,” Rivers said. ” I honestly didn’t think I would win because everyone was so amazing.”

Kail Rivers 38.650 defeated defending senior champ Rachael Lukacs , who tallied 38.525 and placed first on vault. Andrea Li, the junior winner at the 2016 Nastia Liukin Cup, grabbed third in the seniors with 38.425.

Carly Bauman’s Road to The Junior’s Title

Carly  Bauman grab the first round lead  with a clean routine on bars (bail-half to low, immediate free hip; stuck double front dismount). Bauman never let go of it. She hit a steady beam routine and mounted floor with a front handspring- double- twisting front. All that lead her to post a 38.425.

Bauman, wasn’t satisfied with her showing said. “Beam was a little shaky; next time, I’ll do better. It was a really different and fun meet.”

Southeastern teammates Rose Casali and Lali Dekanoidze placed second (38.075) and third (37825), respectively. Dekanoidze, a native of Kutaisi, Georgia, was the junior runner-up last year.“It’s really fun and it’s really difficult. I just tried to take it one skill at a time and one event at a time. I didn’t want to rush it too much.” Bauman said on competing against the field of competition.
