Olympics / Team USA Morgan Hurd Named to USA Gymnastics Team for 2017 World Championships Delaware native headed to Montreal as part of four person team to compete in World Championships. by Gregg Snyder September 21, 2017 Middletown, Del. native Morgan Hurd has been named one of four members of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team that will travel to Montreal to compete in the 2017 World Championships. The competition will take place Oct. 2-8 in Montreal, Que., Canada, and will include all-around and individual event competition. Hurd will be looking to improve on a disappointing finish at nationals where she finished fifth on balance beam and eighth on uneven bars. She also finished 10th in her signature event, floor exercise. Being that she has such a difficult floor routine, if she is able to perform well, Hurd has a chance to battle in the event finals. The 16-year old earned bronze at the Stuttgart all-around world cup in March. That event was her international debut. Hurd joins U.S. all-around champion Ragan Smith, Jade Carey, and Ashton Locklear on the traveling roster. Smith was an alternate on last year’s U.S. Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Rio. Jordan Chiles, who was selected as the non-traveling alternate. There is no team competition at the world championships following an Olympics Games, so gymnasts will only compete for individual medals in the all-around and the four apparatuses. Riley McCusker and Margzetta Frazier, two New Jersey natives on the US Gymnastics Senior Team, were left off the World Championship roster. The U.S. women have won every Olympic all-around title since 2004 and all but one world all-around title since 2007.
