Baseball Skeeters Power Past Patriots 4-3 by Somerset Patriots May 24, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Sugar Land Skeeters (18-14) defeated the Somerset Patriots (20-12) 4-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening. It was Sugar Land’s fourth straight win over the Patriots this season. The Skeeters took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by Rene Tosoni (1) in the first inning. A Matt Fields double was followed two batters later by an RBI single by Mycal Jones to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning. Sugar Land answered in the top of the fifth when former Patriot Jeff Dominguez smacked a two-run homer (5) to make the score 4-1. The Patriots loaded the bases in four innings, once with one out and twice with two outs, and managed to score one run. “We threatened numerous times, but couldn’t get the big hit until late. We have to be a little more disciplined at times and make sure we are selective on a pitch that we can handle instead of chasing what the pitcher is throwing,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. The Patriots struck in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it a one-run game. Rob Kral hit an RBI double to deep center field and Aharon Eggleston belted an RBI single to left field. The tying run was thrown out at the plate on Eggleston’s base hit to keep the score 4-3. Skeeters starting pitcher Sean Gallagher (2-3) allowed a run on four hits in 5.2 innings pitched to earn the win. Patriots starting pitcher Scott McGregor (2-3) allowed four earned runs on six hits in 6.2 innings pitched for the loss. Derek Loop earned his seventh save of the season, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings. “We saw some really good things, but not enough good things. That’s the frustrating part. You see certain guys getting to where they need to get to and other guys are staying the same or regressing. We need to get everybody on the same page,” Jodie added. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. The game includes Post Game Fireworks presented by Unity Bank. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com. Download our Mobile App for free in the Apple or Android App store.
