Skeeters Take Night Cap Of Double Header 6-4 Over Patriots

720oliverwebBridgewater, NJ – The Sugar Land Skeeters (8-6, 43-41) defeated the Somerset Patriots (6-7, 44-39) 6-4 at TD Bank Ballpark in the second game of a day-night double header on Wednesday evening.

The Patriots took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by David Vidal and a sacrifice fly by Bryan LaHair.

The Skeeters answered with three runs of their own in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Jeff Dominguez that made the score 3-2.

Somerset regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third after Brian Van Kirk and Yovan Gonzalez each drove home a run with singles.

Sugar Land bounced back in front in the seventh inning. A Ricky Hague RBI single tied up the game and a two-run double by Delwyn Young made the score 6-4.

“We are in all the games and staying close,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “We just have to find a way to be more consistent and stay away from the big innings. Especially after we scored early in this game and got the lead back later. It’s ours for the taking if we can put up some zeroes and not have that one inning get away from us.”

Jon Velasquez (3-1) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Rob Bryson (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 0.1 innings pitched. Derrick Loop earned his 18th save of the season.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. The game includes a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Sanofi.  For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
