Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of utility player Justin Trapp. Trapp enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots, as well as his first in the Atlantic League. The 26-year old began his 2017 campaign with Sussex County of the Can-Am League, where he stole 15 bases and knocked in 16 runs in 45 games with the Miners. The South Carolina native was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 34th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Fairfield Central HS in Winnsboro, SC. After being drafted, Trapp spent six seasons with the Kansas City organization, working his way to AA-Northwest Arkansas in 2014. After the 2014 season, Trapp joined the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League in 2015, where he hit .272. Arguably the best season of Trapp’s career came back in 2012 in A-Kane County, where he hit .272 with a career-high 12 home runs, 50 RBI and 75 runs scored in 117 games played. Throughout the course of his career, Trapp has experience playing at all three outfield spots as well as second base and shortstop. Trapp owns a .259 career batting average with 37 home runs, 250 RBI, 353 runs scored and 162 stolen bases in 665 career games. Trapp will be activated tomorrow for the game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at TD Bank Ballpark.
