Baseball Somerset Patriots Sign All-Star LHP Chase Huchingson by Somerset Patriots April 9, 2018 Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have signed 2017 Atlantic League All-Star left-handed pitcher Chase Huchingson for the 2018 season. His rights were acquired in a trade with the York Revolution in exchange for the rights to right-handed pitcher Mitch Atkins. “I am very excited to be a part of the Patriots family,” said Huchingson. “The Patriots do it the right way. When the opportunity came up that I would be in Somerset, I knew it would be a good fit.” Huchingson enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and second season in the Atlantic League. “Huch” posted a 4-3 record with a 1.35 ERA and five saves over 57 relief appearances with the York Revolution in 2017 season. He only allowed eight earned runs total over his 53 innings of work, including a 14-game stretch to begin the season over which he did not yield an earned run. The Fayetteville, Arkansas native finished his 2017 season extremely strong. After he was selected as an All-Star, Huchingson did not allow a single run over his final 29 appearances of the regular season: a streak that stretched from July 6 to September 16. His success then continued into the postseason, where he tossed seven scoreless innings with three saves over five appearances en route to an Atlantic League Championship. “It’s my pleasure to announce the Huchingson signing,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “Chase had a phenomenal season in our league last year and is highly motivated to improve upon that success this year. He is very effective against both righties and lefties and we will use him in a way that can highlight his abilities. We expect Chase to have the opportunity to get many tough outs for us this year and he is ready for the challenge.” Huchingson spent the first seven seasons of his professional career in the New York Mets organization. He made 51 relief appearances for Triple-A Las Vegas between 2015 and 2016, and carried a 2.71 ERA over three years of service with Double-A Binghamton. The 6’5” southpaw went 25-16 record with a 3.31 ERA over his seven seasons in the Mets organization. The Somerset Patriots led the Atlantic League in attendance and made their 14th appearance in the playoffs last season. The Somerset Patriots will welcome their 7,000,000th fan in their 20th season at TD Bank Ballpark in 2018. Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Season presented by Ford beginning at home on Friday, April 27th. For more information, please visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
