Baseball Somerset Patriots Sign LHP Darin Gorski by Somerset Patriots April 3, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Darin Gorski. “After speaking with [director of player personnel] Jon [Hunton], it sounds like there is going to be a lot of opportunity for me to play here,” said Gorski. “I am excited about getting here, meeting the guys and proving what I can do.” Gorski enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The southpaw had previously spent all seven seasons of his career in the New York Mets organization, reaching as high as Triple-A Las Vegas in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Last year, Gorski won 10 games in 28 starts with the 51s, including 108 strikeouts over 137 innings of work. The Mount Joy, Pennsylvania native split time between Las Vegas and Double-A Binghamton in 2014, recording a 6-5 record overall in 19 games (18 starts) with a 3.33 ERA and 105 strikeouts over 100 innings pitched. Gorski went 6-1 with a 1.83 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) with Binghamton in 2013. “Darin will be a great addition to our pitching staff,” manager Brett Jodie said. “He is a big lefty that is a true horse as a starting pitcher. He is also a proven winner. Darin possesses an outstanding strike-to-walk ratio and will be a guy that fills up the zone and gives his team a great chance to win. We look for big things from Darin in 2016.” Gorski’s best season came in 2011 with High-A St. Lucie. That season, Gorski was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year after leading the league in ERA (2.08) and WHIP (1.00). Gorski also finished third in the league in strikeouts (140) and fourth in wins (11) over 27 games (21 starts). Additionally, the Kutztown University product remained undefeated through his first 20 appearances before suffering his first loss on July 24th. The 2009 seventh-round draft pick is 52-38 with a 3.82 ERA, four saves and 709 strikeouts over 784 innings pitched in his seven-year professional career. The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
