UFC 215 (MMA News) Throughout this year, the UFC has had events that have either been stinkers or show-stealers. UFC 215 appears it will be the latter of the two after the company announced two huge fights. In their debut in Edmonton, the UFC announced that the Amanda Nunes v. Valentina Shevchenko Bantamweight Title match would be the co-main event. The main event would feature Demetrious Johnson defending his Lightweight Title against Ray Borg. Let’s break it down: Nunes (14-4) and Shevchenko (14-2) were supposed to face off in the main event of UFC 213. Due to the champion suffering from sinusitis, the fight was called off the day of the event. With her health seemingly better, Nunes will look to go 2-0 against Shevchenko. Nunes previously challenged and beat her at UFC 196. Dana White has stated that he wouldn’t put Nunes in the main event of a card ever again, and it appears he is keeping true to his word. He has stated the same thing about Jon Jones before however, and there may be a chance he does main event UFC 214 against Daniel Cormier. Therefore, plans can change at any time. Demetrious Johnson (26–2–1) will get his chance at being a true main eventer on a PPV for the UFC. While the champion has been a part of many TV fights and a few PPV’s, he hasn’t been given the proper stage to showcase himself to the world. Ending one of the biggest PPV’s of the year should do the trick. Johnson has won 12 straight fights and is looking to make history. He is currently tied with Anderson Silva with 10 successful title defenses under his belt. Johnson’s dominance was rewarded by winning the ESPY for 2016’s Best Fighter award last week. Ray Borg (11-2) is not a man to be taken lightly however. He has won five of his last six fights and is currently riding on two straight victories. If there was ever a time for these two to put it all on the line, a PPV like UFC 215 would be the place. In addition, the rest of the card features some great fighters. Junior Dos Santos faces off against Francis Ngannou, Jeremy Stephens against Gilbert Melendez and Sara McMann v. Ketlen Vieira. Nunes and Johnson lead the pack on what could be a fantastic event. UFC 215 takes place at Rogers Place in Edmonton on September 9th. Post Views: 1,537 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Daniel Yanofsky Baseball Editor, Misc. Sports Editor.
