Feature UFC 207: Amanda Nunes destroys Ronda Rousey in 48 seconds by Daniel Yanofsky December 31, 2016 Amanda Nunes – Ronda Rousey (Brandon Magnus/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) It was an outcome that was expected, but not that quickly. In her first match since losing to Holly Holm over 13 months ago, Ronda Rousey returned to the octagon to try and reclaim her title. Instead, Amanda Nunes dominated the former Bantamweight Champion at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena at UFC 207. It was a pure one-sided fight, with Nunes striking out of the gate with shots to Rousey before finishing her off with a huge shot to the face. Nunes (14-4) has now won five straight fights. With all of the attention on Ronda the past few months, it is “The Lioness” who will have all eyes one her now. During her post-fight interview, Nunes had the opportunity to speak to those who rooted for and against her. She sent a dig Rousey’s way, stating its no longer her time: “Now she’s going to retire and go to movies and make a lot of money now. You have lots of talent in this division. Forget about Ronda Rousey.” Rousey (12-2), who has been a true pioneer for women in MMA, was adamant about not speaking to the media leading up to the fight. She looked ready for competition, but couldn’t get the job done. I truly agree with Michael Bisping when he stated on FS1 that Rousey should have had a tune up fight. With a year away from competition, anything can happen. What now? There are plenty of options for Ronda Rousey (another fight, movies, WWE), and only time will tell what her future holds. We here at Double G Sports will definitely get to that another time. For now, Amanda Nunes is here to stay, and will look to be the next dominant woman in MMA.
