Will Carmelo Anthony’s Greatness be Revitalized?

This week was the perfect cherry on top to an outstanding NBA free agency season. Outstanding in comparison to the parody that has been brought back into the league, as three-to-four teams have reclaimed their stake as a contender. The most recent, Oklahoma City deals for Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony, and adds him to the NBA’s newest 3-headed monster, alongside Paul George and Russell Westbrook.

May I first express my deepest condolences to Knicks fans. They received about as little as you could possibly acquire for a player of Carmelo’s magnitude. Of course this comes as no surprise. Between the Phil Jackson tenure, which contributed two years of dragging Anthony’s name through the mud, while also finding a way to disrespect your young superstar Kristaps Porzingis, I cant help but think the Knicks had this coming.

More importantly, we can now look into the back nine of Melo’s career with bigger expectations than originally thought. Finally, here is an opportunity to see Anthony as a vital piece to a “super-team”, and I’m excited to say the least.

What may be most enticing, is not only could Carmelo’s greatness once again be on full display, but will we see more of a Olympic-style Melo? Carmelo Anthony is one of the leagues greatest offensive talents, and no platform has proved this more then the Olympic stage. He would fit beautifully into an offense with other superstars creating space for him, and allowing Carmelo to do what he does best.. Knock down open and contested jump-shots.

Arguably the NBA’s deadliest player in a 1 dribble pull-up scenario, will now be paired with the most athletically dominant player in the league (Russell Westbrook). Add in the talent of Paul George, and we have another offensive juggernaut in the Western Conference overnight.

Hopefully, what I’m foreshadowing will become true, especially in regards for where Carmelo goes down in history. Quite frankly, the spotlight for Melo has been greatly magnified. This is the opportunity he’s been waiting his entire career for, and now he has no other choice but to take advantage of it.

As for the Knicks, the future is simple. Slow and steady wins the race, and that is precisely how they should treat their re-building process.
