Jose Quintana (Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports) The Chicago White Sox are reportedly scouting the New York Yankees farm system looking for a potential deal for Jose Quintana. Quintana, who had a 3.20 ERA and a 5.1 WAR in 2016 is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball and would definitely slide in as the Yankees ace going forward. Most recently, Quintana pitched for Team Colombia in the World Baseball Classic and threw an absolute gem against Team USA before he was pulled after giving up his first hit after 5 and 2/3 innings and almost at his 65 pitch limit. Jose Quintana owns a career 3.41 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and has a K/9 of 7.4, and he has never had a season with an ERA over 3.76 (his first year in the majors in 2012). Quintana is a true ace, and for the right price, at age 28, would be an excellent player to acquire for the rebuilding Yankees. Now that brings me to the Yankees, the White Sox are going through a complete roster overhaul and have already dealt Chris Sale to the Red Sox for some of the MLBs top prospects. While Quintana isn’t as big a name as Sale, I believe the Yankees would need to give up a similar package that Boston did. In my opinion, it will take three or four of the Yankees top prospects to acquire Quintana, or even a package including Brett Gardner. Since Gleyber Torres’ rise through the prospect ranks, I have been saying all along that Jorge Mateo should be in a package that is traded for a quality MLB pitcher. I believe this would be the perfect scenario to do so. Also, with the Yankees having an abundance of outfield prospects. I would not be surprised to see Clint Frazier, Blake Rutherford or Aaron Judge included in a deal for Quintana. Quintana is on a team friendly deal through 2020, and with the Yankees farm system being one of the deepest in the MLB, it puts them in an excellent spot to unload some of those prospects to get the ace that this team needs.
