Feature Devils Introduce New Head Coach John Hynes has been hired as the Devils new head coach. by Staff Post June 2, 2015 It was a brief but insightful press conference as the New Jersey Devils introduced John Hynes as their new head coach today. It was the first opportunity for both Ray Shero, the new general manager, and John Hynes to meet with the media, give a brief statement, and take some questions. Shero was very direct in how he wants to see the Devils play going forward, stating that they will be three things: “fast, attacking, supportive.” These will add up to “team, which is the most important thing.” Shero also stated that Hynes was the only person to whom he offered the job. Shero then introduced Hynes. He was cordial in thanking the Devils organization for the opportunity, then talked about how he worked well with Shero in the Penguins organization. Following that there were a couple quick questions from reporters on the coaching staff that will be accompanying Hynes. Shero said he and Hynes have talked about it but no decisions have been made yet. Shero wants Hynes to get to know everyone in the organization first before choosing his coaching staff. Naming Hynes is a positive move for the Devils; they now have a head coach who understands and is able to execute the style of play his general manager wants. Ultimately this will make the Devils a stronger organization with personnel decisions becoming easier to make. Also, conveying that message of “fast, attacking, supportive” play to other coaching staff members and the players will be doubly reinforced from the GM and the head coach. Decisions on the staff, drafting players, and making moves will all come in time for the Devils. For now fans have a chance to get excited about the new direction this franchise is headed towards.
