Baseball Another Late Inning Collapse Leaves Terry Collins Fuming by Staff Post June 2, 2011 The New York Mets have been without David Wright and Ike Davis for some time now. They had also been without Angel Pagan until he recently returned to the lineup. Jose Reyes has been on the bereavement list since Monday. Mets manager Terry Collins refuses to use that as an excuse. After yet another late inning collapse on Wednesday, Collins was fuming and took his frustration out on the players. The manager laid into his players after Wednesdays 9-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. New York allowed four runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eigth as they suffered their second straight loss. The Mets have won just three of their past ten games and have fallen into fourth place in the National League East, just one game ahead of last place Washington. Collins is finally letting his frustration be known. He claims to be aware that his team is playing hard, just not executing. When you don’t execute in baseball, it’s generally lack of focus and a failure to perform basic baseball. “I’m running out of ideas here,” Collins told reporters after the loss. “Do we play hard? Absolutely. That’s not the issue. The issue is not effort. That’s not it. It’s about execution.” “They’re big league players. They should be able to do it,” he added. The Mets have become just the fifth team in Major League history to lose five straight home games after leading in the seventh inning or later. Collins vowed to make changes. The manager continued to claim he would make changes and the performance on the field will change. You have to wonder what changes he could possibly make. With Wright and Davis still on the DL, and the Mets roster not very deep, there is not all that much Collins can do. Do they call up more players from Triple-A? The Mets minor league system is not deep with players ready for the Majors. Do they shake up the lineup? Hard to do when players like Daniel Murphy are currently batting fifth because your bigger bats are sitting on the disabled list and unable to play. One thing you can say however, is when a Major League team puts a team on the field, the manager should be able to expect the players to make plays. Sure, the lineup may not be one that can consistently score six or seven runs a game, but the fielders must be able to help out. The pitchers must be able to make pitches when they need to. The batters need to do a better job at situational hitting. These are Major League players! Collins frustration is certainly warranted, we are just not sure how his claims of making changes will actually be able to come to fruition. If the expected fire sale of the Mets begins, it will be that much harder. Just sounds like the rest of the season may be one to forget for Mets fans. New York finished a four game series with Pittsburgh this afternoon. Mike Pelfrey (3-4, 5.00) takes the ball for the Mets and will be opposed by Pirates starter Paul Maholm (2-7, 3.18). clonidine 150 mg effects doxycycline for rosacea dosage Buy Without Prescription proscar effectiveness tabs ortho tri cyclen lo no prescription Buy Without Prescription lisinopril overdose home price Buy bactrim 10 days femara 1mg tabs retin a how it works for sale zyloprim website drug Seroquel weight loss after stopping effects Post Views: 1,320 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Staff Post Latest posts by Staff Post (see all) In The Zone Announces Initial Podcast Lineup - November 13, 2020 The Essential Resources You Need to Start Your Own Gym in 2020 - February 6, 2020 Wilder vs Fury II – How the second fight will be different to the first? - February 5, 2020 Early turnovers, defensive struggles plague the Scarlet Knights - January 26, 2020 Related TopicsDavid WrightIke DavisJose ReyesMike PelfreyNew York MetsTerry Collins Click to comment You must be logged in to post a comment Login Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
