Hockey Alain Vigneault Weighs in On Nicklas Jensen Vigneault on Jensen by Staff Post January 13, 2016 The Rangers made some headlines during the past week with their curious trade of Emerson Etem to the Vancouver Canucks for Nicklas Jensen and a 2016 sixth round pick. Jensen was selected by the Canucks in 2011 with the 29th overall pick when Alain Vigneault was still head coach of Vancouver. According to Jim Cerny of BlueShirtsUnited.com, Vigneault had this to say about his former and current player: “I had him one or two training camps when he was 17 or 18, don’t remember a lot about him. There’s a lot of potential there, our scouts have seen a lot of potential. Can the player put it all together? That’s the question. Time tells you. Some players figure it out, others don’t. We’ll see here.” This doesn’t sound like the most encouraging assessment of a player I’ve ever heard; it’s been five years since he was drafted and there is only so much potential you can have. But as Vigneault says, time will tell. Furthermore, it is strange that this move would be made because the Rangers essentially swapped a fan favorite in Carl Hagelin for Nicklas Jensen who has 24 career games and six career points and will now go to Hartford for further evaluation.
