Hockey New York Riveters Kick Off Unrestricted Free Agency with Two Signings by Chip Gianni May 1, 2016 The New York Riveters kicked off the unrestricted free agency period in the National Women’s Hockey League on Sunday with two signings. Riveters general manager, Chad Wiseman announced that the team signed Kaleigh Fratkin and Jaimie Leonoff for the 2016-2017 NWHL season. The Riveters reached a one-year agreement with Fratkin worth 19,500 and a one-year deal with Leonoff for 10,000. Fratkin played in all 18 game for the Connecticut Whale during the 2015-2016 season, while scoring 17 points and leading all defensemen in scoring. Leonoff appeared 10 games between the pipes for the Whale while posting a .936 save percentage and a 2.96 goals against average, with a record of 7-3-0. Fratkin said, “I decided to sign with the Riveters because they offered me an opportunity that I thought would be the best fit for me. I am beyond excited to be a part of the Riveters organization and look forward to chasing the Isobel Cup.” Leonoff added, “I am really happy to be a part of the Riveters organization, I have heard amazing things about the staff and coaches and I am looking forward to competing with a top team this season.” With the unrestricted free agency period just beginning on Sunday, Fratkin and Leonoff become the first unrestricted free agents to sign with a club for the new season. The free agency period now runs through July 31, with the 2016 NWHL Junior Draft taking place on June 18.
