Baseball BlueClaws Bats Come Alive in 12-5 Win Over Hagerstown by Staff Post June 29, 2016 The Lakewood BlueClaws pounded out 16 hits Tuesday night in their 12-5 win over the host Hagerstown (Md.) Suns in South Atlantic League play. Zach Coppola keyed the assault with four hits for the Philadelphia Phillies’ low Class A farm team. Deivi Grullon and Carlos Duran each stroked three. The BlueClaws erupted for four and five-run innings against the Washington Nationals’ affiliate. They are 33-42 overall, including 4-2 in the second half of the season. The Suns, who won their first 11 games against Lakewood, have lost five of their last six games against the BlueClaws. The Suns are 47-29 overall, including 4-2 in the second half. Lakewood took a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Josh Tobias and a run-scoring single by Damek Tomscha. The BlueClaws scored five runs on five hits in the third for a 7-0 lead. Tobias keyed the inning with a two-run single to cap the scoring. Duran added an RBI single. Lakewood reliever Edgar Garcia (2-0) allowed one unearned run in four innings for the win. The BlueClaws scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Duran. They scored four in the seventh, including three on a single by Grullon on which a throwing error by the left fielder resulted in three runs. Tobias drove in three runs and Duran plated two. Tobias, who was 2-for-6, has hit safely in eight straight games. He’s 16-for-38 during that stretch. Eight of Lakewood’s nine starters stroked hits.
