Football WINNER$ – SUPER BOWL SUNDAY by Jared Smith February 4, 2017 Well we’ve had 12 days to digest what we saw last Sunday in the NFC and AFC title games. Can’t say I’m surprised with the results. I picked Atlanta and New England to advance but the Packers to cover the number so we’ll settle for a 1-1 week officially. But, if you bet the exact future prop like I did (NE vs. ATL in Super Bowl) then you’re guaranteed to make some money this weekend. It’s poetic that our record stands at level par for the playoffs heading into the final game. One pick for the all the marbles and a winning postseason in year one of the column, and maybe some bonus cookies for the road. Here are the numbers… Championship Sunday Results: Packers +5.5 (Loss) Patriots -6 (Win) Divisional Record: 1-1 Playoff Record: 5-5 Super Bowl Sunday WINNER$: PATRIOTS -3 vs. Falcons Tom Brady and Co. are on a mission. After sitting out the first four games because of Deflategate, Brady is determined to have the man who carried out his punishment hand him the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday. It’s really hard, almost impossible to go against the Pats in this spot. I can see them winning by 3 and thus pushing the spread, so if you want to be safe just pound them on the money line. Atlanta enters with the #1 scoring offense in the NFL and the Patriots are the #1 scoring defense. Unsurprisingly, that match up has happened 6 prior times in the Super Bowl, with the #1 defense going 5-1 in those games. History has a funny way of repeating itself. Tom gets one for the thumb. Patriots 35, Falcons 29. BONUS PICK: 1st Quarter Under 13.5 If I know anything about Bill Belichick he will play his secondary deep and drop back into a cover 2 shell to start this game, forcing the Falcons and Matt Ryan to look away from Julio Jones and the deep ball early. I expect both teams to rely on the running game to settle in, which should keep the clock running and also set up nicely for a possible 2nd half over scenario. Good luck and thanks for reading this season! We’ll be back in March for the NCAA Tournament!
