Baseball Aaron Hicks signs 7-year extension with Yankees by Jesse Natale February 26, 2019 The New York Yankees have locked up their center fielder, signing 29-year-old, Aaron Hicks to a 7-year, $70 million extension. The contract will hold through the 2025 season, with a club option for the 2026 season. Before coming to the Yankees in 2016, Hicks struggled tremendously in Minnesota, and it wasn’t until 2017 that Hicks figured it out. Aaron’s first year with the Yankees in 2016 was a disappointing one, hitting just .217 with an OBP of under .300. Despite an injury, costing Hicks 74 games in the 2017 regular season, Aaron blossomed, hitting .266 with an OBP of .372. Hicks also provided the Yankees with gold glove defense and much needed speed. The success continued for Hicks in 2018, having himself a career year; which would eventually be his ticket for the 7-year extension. Hicks provided the Yankees with quality at-bats all year, posting an incredible WAR of 4.7, which would rank among the leagues best for center fielders. The Yankees switch-hitting center fielder will look to continue his success going into the 2019 season, as he continues to impress.
