Baseball Alex Rodriguez Led New York Yankees Run Through July Rodriguez hit nine home runs so far in July. by Staff Post July 30, 2015 Believe it or not, New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez has risen from the dead and has led his Yankees team to an impeccable July. Rodriguez, who turned 40 on Monday night homered for an all-time best sixth time on his birthday, and becomes just the fourth player to homer as a teen and in his 40s. Ty Cobb, Rusty Staub and Gary Shefield are the other three. Rodriguez has hit 24 homers this year including nine in the month of July, one short of the single month record. Rodriguez has been consistent all season for the Yankees and has led them to a six game lead in the American League East. The Yankees slugger is hitting .280 with 60 runs batted in. A-Rod is not the only Yankee who has been consistent in July, as first year Yankee shortstop Didi Gregorius has been red hot. Gregorius has improved each month from April on and after going 3-for-4 with a career-best four runs batted in in Monday night in a win in Texas, Gregorius has hit .294 for the Yanks in July. Including a multi-hit game on Tuesday followed by a three hit game on Tuesday with a bases clearing triple. Gregorius looks comfortable at the plate and has been consistent in the field for the Yankees and has led the Yankees to a 16-5 record in July. If Gregorius continues to hit and Rodriguez continues to be consistent, the Yankees with Mark Texiera, and Brett Gardner will be on cruise control as the dog days of August approach.
