New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr could possibly miss the team’s season opener against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering an ankle injury on Monday night. The news was reported by Dan Graziano and Jordan Raanan of ESPN, who say that it is, “not out of the question he could miss a week or two of the regular season.” This is very unwelcome news, as it was originally expected that Beckham would just miss the final two games of the preseason. “Odell has an ankle and we’ll see how he responds to treatment,” said Giants head coach Ben McAdoo. The injury came on Monday night, where Beckham went for the catch and was struck by a very questionable hit from Browns cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun. The corner used his helmet and shoulder to hit Beckham low by his left knee. The star receiver would walk off the field, but would collapse in pain in the hallways of First Energy Stadium before making it to the locker room. Beckham would have an X-ray taken during the game, where results of any significant damage came back negative, as the medical staff concluded that he suffered an ankle sprain. There was optimism of the injury being very minor, as Beckham returned to the sidelines during the second half and jogged to the locker room after the game. An MRI was taken on Tuesday, which confirmed that Beckham indeed had a sprained ankle. However, a source tells both Graziano and Raanan that Beckham’s ankle is “very sore,” which negates the optimism that the Giants had on Monday night. The Giants will look to see how Beckham recuperates from the sprained ankle in the coming weeks in order to determine how much time the fourth year receiver will miss. Stay tuned, as Double G Sports will continue to keep you updated once more details are released on Beckham’s recovery time.
