Bluefish Sweep Double Header Over Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-10, 44-50) swept a double header over the Somerset Patriots (12-12, 50-44) at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

The Bluefish won the first game 3-2 over Somerset.

Bridgeport took the lead in the first inning on an error and an RBI single by Jose Cuevas that made the score 2-0.

The Patriots cut the lead in half on an RBI groundout by Mycal Jones in the second inning.

Luis Hernandez extended the lead for the Bluefish with a sacrifice fly by Luis Hernandez in the fifth inning for a 3-1 advantage.

Bryan LaHair smacked an RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-2, which would be the final score.

Blake Beavan (5-3) picked up the win, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings pitched. Will Oliver (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in a complete seven-inning effort. Jose Veras earned his seventh save of the season with a scoreless inning pitched.

“I thought Oliver threw the ball pretty well. We just had a couple errors that got some guys into scoring position and they took advantage of it. That was the difference in the game,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.

 

Game 2:

The Bluefish broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the 12th inning on an RBI single by Jonathan Galvez for a 4-3 extra inning win in game two of the double header.

The Patriots rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie up the game. With the bases loaded, Bryan LaHair hit a bases clearing double that evened up the score at 3-3.

The Bluefish scored a run in the third inning on an RBI double by Endy Chavez.

Bridgeport plated two more runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that allowed Jiwan James to score and a sacrifice fly by Jose Cuevas for a 3-0 lead.

Frank DeJiulio Jr. (4-0) picked up the win with a scoreless 1.2 innings pitched. Mickey Storey (1-6) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits in an inning pitched. Sam Gervacio earned his first save of the season.
