Baseball Bluefish Sweep Double Header Over Patriots by Somerset Patriots July 31, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-10, 44-50) swept a double header over the Somerset Patriots (12-12, 50-44) at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening. Game 1: The Bluefish won the first game 3-2 over Somerset. Bridgeport took the lead in the first inning on an error and an RBI single by Jose Cuevas that made the score 2-0. The Patriots cut the lead in half on an RBI groundout by Mycal Jones in the second inning. Luis Hernandez extended the lead for the Bluefish with a sacrifice fly by Luis Hernandez in the fifth inning for a 3-1 advantage. Bryan LaHair smacked an RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-2, which would be the final score. Blake Beavan (5-3) picked up the win, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings pitched. Will Oliver (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in a complete seven-inning effort. Jose Veras earned his seventh save of the season with a scoreless inning pitched. “I thought Oliver threw the ball pretty well. We just had a couple errors that got some guys into scoring position and they took advantage of it. That was the difference in the game,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. Game 2: The Bluefish broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the 12th inning on an RBI single by Jonathan Galvez for a 4-3 extra inning win in game two of the double header. The Patriots rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie up the game. With the bases loaded, Bryan LaHair hit a bases clearing double that evened up the score at 3-3. The Bluefish scored a run in the third inning on an RBI double by Endy Chavez. Bridgeport plated two more runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that allowed Jiwan James to score and a sacrifice fly by Jose Cuevas for a 3-0 lead. Frank DeJiulio Jr. (4-0) picked up the win with a scoreless 1.2 innings pitched. Mickey Storey (1-6) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits in an inning pitched. Sam Gervacio earned his first save of the season. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Tuesday with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks.
