Brad Emaus DFA, Turner Called Up

The Mets have finally given up on Rule 5 Draft pick Brad Emaus and designated him for assignment. Twenty-six year old Justin Turner will earn the start at second base tonight in place of Emaus.

Emaus hit a dismal .162 (6-37) with one RBI in 14 games before ultimately getting the boot. Emaus won the starting second base job in Spring Training but failed to produce in the regular season. Emaus will be offered back to the Blue Jays after ten days unless the Mets want to retain the young infielder; in which case they would have to work out a trade.

As for Turner, he and Murphy will likely platoon at second base. Turner was hitting .300 (12-40) with six runs scored, five extra base hits and two RBIs in 10 games played for Triple-A Buffalo. Turner was claimed by the Mets off waivers from the Orioles in May of 2010 and had one hit in eight at-bats for the Mets that season.
