Hockey Brandon Pirri Signs With New York Rangers by Staff Post August 25, 2016 Brandon Pirri (ESPN) The New York Rangers continue to make shrewd moves during the offseason, the latest being the signing of Brandon Pirri. The 25-year old will arrive on the cheap for the Blue Shirts at a cost of just 1.1 million for the year. Pirri has had some success in his short NHL career when just two seasons ago he tallied 22 goals for the Florida Panthers in 49 games and last season in a split year between the Panthers and the Anaheim Ducks scored 14 goals in 61 games. This is a low risk high reward move for the Rangers who get a guy who is versatile being able to play both center and win and if he can find his form from a couple years ago can contribute in a nice way offensively. Pirri is still young so if the Rangers do manage to get a strong season out of him it will pave the way for possibly a longer term solution if the team and player agree to that. The Rangers have certainly been stockpiling forwards this offseason and now have quite a few on the roster. It remains to be seen whether some will be traded away or just be left as healthy scratches and backup options during the season. The fact remains however that the more options the Rangers have the better chance they have of putting together a stronger team this season.
