Devils Week In Review

Article by Double G Sports Devils Writer, Joseph Higgins.

As the second week ends and the third week starts, the Devils still stand in last place of the Atlantic Division. Although they have the same amount of points as the Rangers, the Devils have played six games thus far while the Rangers have played three.

New Jersey went 1-3 from October 11, 2010 to today, losing to Colorado, Pittsburgh and most recently, Boston. They beat the Buffalo Sabres in overtime. Martin Brodeur has made all the starts so far this season, only being benched once against Washington last week. His record sits at 1-4 with one shutout (against Buffalo).

Ilya Kovalchuk leads the Devils on the stats sheet, having a total of five points (2 goals, 3 assists) and the team’s only game-winning goal holder. Patrik Elias stands below him with four points, (1 goal, 3 assists) while Jason Arnott, Jamie Langenbrunner, Travis Zajac and Matt Taormina all share three points apiece.

Arnott sadly has the “most negative” plus/minus number with -7 followed by Langenbrunner with -6.

Today, the Devils head coach John MacLean tried to mix things around at practice and formed different lines for the team seeing if a new chemistry could be found. The new projected lines are as follows (starting from LW-C-RW):

Parise-Zajac-Zubrus
Elias-Josefson-Kovalchuk
Pelley-Arnott-Langenbrunner
Mair-Sestito-Clarkson

New Jersey will travel to Montreal for Thursday night’s game against the Canadiens and they’ll come back home for Saturday’s game against the Sabres yet again.
