MMA Frankie Edgar out of UFC 218 title fight due to injury, Jose Aldo to face Max Holloway Another injury has affected a major UFC event, this time it’s New Jersey’s Frankie Edgar. by Daniel Yanofsky November 13, 2017 What a wild week it has been for the UFC. Among all the injuries and suspensions that took place after UFC 217, a local guy has affected a major PPV event. New Jersey’s Frankie Edgar is out of his main event title fight at UFC 218 against Max Holloway (18-3) due to injury. According to Combate, Edgar (22-5-1) suffered a facial injury. He’ll be back to fight in about 12 weeks, but his opportunity to fight for the UFC Featherweight Championship is off the cards for now. It’s a tough break for Edgar, who was just getting on a roll. He defeated Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 and in his last eight fights has gone 7-1. Who knows when he will get his next opportunity at the title. httpss://www.instagram.com/p/BbQSV0Sn9Yi/ There was no way the UFC would back down from an epic title fight. They called in a familiar face to help them out. A few days after the news broke, it was confirmed that Jose Aldo would take on Holloway. That’s right, the man that Holloway beat to become the undisputed champion will be getting his rematch. Aldo (26-3) was scheduled to face Ricardo Lamas on December 16th, but now those plans seem to be scrapped. If Frankie Edgar is interested, he could face Lamas once he is available to fight. The matchup would be intriguing, and he wouldn’t have any ring rust. As for Aldo, the decision has been questioned by many. Social media was buzzing, debating if younger talent should have received a title shot. With a stacked featherweight division with the likes of Cub Swanson in it, the UFC was in a tough bind. Ultimately, a rematch might be the right fit for a title that has a lost it’s identity since Conor McGregor became champion. UFC 218, scheduled to take place on December 2nd in Detroit, is already grabbing headlines, albeit for reasons out of the UFC’s control. Will Aldo exact his revenge on Holloway? Will Edgar get another opportunity? The way news travels in the MMA world, we might find out sooner rather than later.
