Hockey Getting Frosty? Morgan Frost Selected as Phantoms All-Star Representative by Carly Wolff January 15, 2020 Morgan Frost of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms was selected as their 2020 AHL All-Star Classic representative. Frost was a 2017 first round pick by the Philadelphia Flyers. The Aurora, Ontario native played for the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. His talent was obvious to fans, and he was very quickly recognized as a top player in the junior leagues. In the 2017-2018 season, he hit career highs in goals, assists, and points with the Greyhounds. He was awarded top-scorer, team MVP, and was a Red Tilson Award finalist, given to the MVP of the OHL. Since starting with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Frost has had six goals and nine assists for fifteen points in twenty-two games played. He has yet to collect a power play goal or a clutch game winning goal, but this is his first season in the AHL, and he’s still only twenty years old. The AHL is a fantastic place for him to develop his skills and he’ll be a better player because of it. Oskar Lindblom comes to mind when it comes to players that developed in the AHL and went on to be solid players in the NHL. Being selected for the AHL All-Star Classic in his first season is an impressive feat as well. According to statistics from AHL.com, more than ninety-four percent of players since 1995 go on to play in the NHL. Quite a few of them are house-hold names including Zdeno Chara, Pekka Rinne, and Mats Zuccarello. On November 18, 2019, the Philadelphia Flyers recalled Frost for the first time to play with the big kids. He made his NHL debut on the 19th and collected his first NHL goal during the game as well. He got his second goal in his second game as well. He went on to collect two goals and five assists for a total of seven points. He played with the big kids club for eighteen games before being sent back down to the AHL to develop his skills a bit more. He had hit a wall with his production and play, but those kinds of growing pains are to be expected with his young age and it being his first season playing pro hockey. The All-Star Classic will be held at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on January 26 and 27. The event is being hosted by the Ontario Reign. The team is looking at it as an excellent way to gain some recognition and get on the map. The All-Star Skills Competition will be Sunday the 26th. The Hall of Fame induction and awards ceremony will take place on the 27th with the All-Star Challenge following later that evening. Frost is an excellent addition to the roster and will be sure to the Phantoms and the Flyers proud.
