Baseball Hopkins Powers Patriots To 9-3 Win by Somerset Patriots September 6, 2015 Sugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (32-24, 82-44) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-33, 59-67) 9-3 Sunday evening at Constellation Field. In the top of the first inning left fielder Michael Burgess tallied a RBI ground out to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage. Left fielder Johan Limonta laced a two RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to put Sugar Land ahead 2-1. First baseman Travis Scott committed a throwing error in the top of the second inning that allowed Somerset to tie the game at 2-2 as designated hitter Mike Wilson scored on the errant throw. Somerset plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to grab a 4-2 lead. Wilson scored via a wild pitch from Kelvin Villa and another run crossed home when right fielder Nate Spears legged out a RBI infield single. Second baseman Greg Hopkins belted a grand slam (10) to give Somerset an 8-2 cushion in the top of the seventh inning. Sugar Land cut the deficit to 8-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when center fielder Denny Almonte hammered a home run (10). Another run was added for Somerset in the ensuing half inning to up the score to 9-3 as center fielder Jonny Tucker scored via a wild pitch hurled by Stephen Nikonchik. Zach Clark earned the win (2-1) hurling six innings while giving up two runs. Villa suffered the loss (0-1) tossing four innings while surrendering four runs. The 2015 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until the Somerset Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the York Revolution on Tuesday, September 8th.
