Hockey Islanders Release 2015-16 Schedule NHL released schedules this week. by Chip Gianni June 26, 2015 The New York Islanders have announced their schedule for the 2015-2016 National Hockey League season on Thursday. The team opens the season, their first in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a home game on Friday October 9 in a matchup against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks. Four of their first five and 10 out of the first 15 will take place in their new residence, giving fans an early look at the excitement of hockey in Brooklyn. The Islanders will have five matchups each, with their Metropolitan Division rivals Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets, while they will face their other divisional opponents in the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals four times each. After the heated seven game, post season battle with the Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the two teams will meet in Brooklyn on January 7 and then again on February 18. The highly anticipated first Islanders and Rangers showdown in Brooklyn will take place on December 2. Their other area rival, the Devils will make their first visit to Barclays Center on November 3, while the Flyers and Penguins make their first appearance in Brooklyn on November 25 and March 8 respectively. The Islanders will close out their season at home on Saturday April 9 in a matchup with the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders will release a promotional schedule at a later date.
