Feature Jeff Gorton Named the 11th and Latest General Manager of the NY Rangers Sathers remains with team as President. by Staff Post July 2, 2015 NY Rangers Zone (@NYRangersZone) | Twitter In a move that was no secret to anyone these past few weeks, President and General Manager of the NY Rangers, Glen Sather, relinquished the position of GM and handed the reins of the team to Assistant General Manager, Jeff Gorton. Slats will remain as President of the Broadway Blueshirts, but the day to day handling of the team will be taken care of by the 46 year old Gorton, who is somewhat of a hockey lifer. Jeff began his career with the Boston Bruins for the 1992-93 season when he gained a position in the public relations department. He grew from there to Director of Scouting Information to Assistant General Manager. As the Assistant GM, he dealt with contract negotiations, scouting operations and Boston’s AHL affiliate in Providence. Gorton even served as the Interim GM of the Bruins from March 27th to July 8th, 2007. It was at that draft, that he helped land: Brad Marchand, Tukka Rask, Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic, Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard. Jeff has been a part of the NY Ranger organization for the past eight seasons, with the last four as Assistant GM. During his tenure with the Blueshirts, he was instrumental in the signing of Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Jesper Fast and JT Miller. He was also vital in the acquisitions of Ryan McDonagh, Rick Nash, Derick Brassard and Keith Yandle via trades and the free agent signings of Kevin Hayes and Matts Zuccarello. Gorton has also served as a professional scout and Assistant Director, Player Personnel for the Rangers. Jeff has taken over for Glen Sather and is the 11th General Manager in the franchise’s history. Also, Jim Schoenfeld (62) has been named Senior Vice-President and Assistant General Manager, as well as the General Manager of the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Ranger’s AHL (American Hockey League) affiliate. Meanwhile, Glen Sather will remain the President of the NY Rangers, which is the position he has held since June 1st, 2000.
