Lakewood Takes Wild One Over Hagerstown

Hagerstown starting pitcher Andrew Lee had trouble controlling his pitches and allowed six walks and threw two wild pitches over just 4.1 innings.  Lakewood starter Will Stewart tossed another strong game allowing just two hits and one run over five innings of work as the BlueClaws put together a late rally to earn the 4-3 win.  Stewart’s ERA now stands at an impressive 1.17.

It was a game that didn’t feature much power as the BlueClaws could only muster two extra base hits.  They took the lead in the third when Dan Britto’s single game them a 2-1 advantage and they ended the inning up 3-1 after Rodolfo Duran’s team leading ninth home run.

Hagerstown battled back for two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Luis Carrasco (2-0), who pitched through some early challenges to earn his second win of the season.  Julian Garcia closed out the game to notch his first save on the 2018 campaign.  Sam Held (2-4) took the loss for Hagerstown.

The hometown crowd of 3,024 got what they hoped for in the eighth inning when BlueClaw Quincy Nieporte’s double drove home what would be the winning run.

The BlueClaws enjoy matching up against Hagerstown and have a 11-5 record over the past 16 games.

The two teams will meet again Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.  Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm and the BlueClaws lead with lefty Kyle Young (2-3) and Hagerstown counters with a lefty of their own Seth Romero (0-1).
