Long Island Ducks Take Opening Game in Series Against New Britain Bees

The Long Island Ducks opened their three-game series against New Britain Bees Tuesday night at Bethpage Ballpark.

New Britain was able to start get the first runs on the board against Long Island. They were able to do so after a fielding error and an RBI single brought in Greg Golson and Michael Crouse. Long Island was able to cut the two-run lead in half with a bomber to right field from Ruben Gotay in the bottom of the 1st. During the bottom of the 4th inning Anthony Vega added a two-run single to the board for the Ducks bringing their lead to 3-2. The battle continued when Greg Golson hit a solo home run to left field tying the game up in the fifth. Long Island answered back with a Dan Johnson homer to right-center. The Bees were able to obtain a run-scoring groundout thanks to Jovan Rosa in the seventh inning but the Ducks broke free of the back and forth offense battle thanks to Mike Dowd who gave the Ducks the game winning run in the bottom of the 8th with a two-out RBI.

Ducks starter RHP Bruce Kern(2.88 ERA) pitched five innings giving up one earned run, two unearned runs, and striking out four. New Britain starter RHP Brain Durpra (2.68 ERA) gave the Bees seven innings, four runs, three walks, and two strikeouts.
