Hockey Metropolitan Riveters Add Reigning Fastest Skater Kristin Lewicki to Roster by Chip Gianni July 31, 2018 Photo Credit: Michael Hetzel The Metropolitan Riveters added more speed to their lineup on Tuesday as the club announced that forward Kristin Lewicki will be leaving the Buffalo Beauts to join the defending Isobel Cup Champions. The addition of Lewicki gives the Riveters the last two winners of the National Women’s Hockey League Fastest Skater competition. Lewicki won the event this past February at the 2018 NWHL All Star Game in Minnesota and Rebecca Russo won it the season before in Pittsburgh. The Adrian College forward played a huge role in helping the Beauts get back to the Isobel Cup Final in her rookie season. She put up five goals and two assists in 14 games with Buffalo. While she has some great appreciation for the Beauts organization and Pegula Sports and Entertainment, who also own the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and Buffalo bills of the National Football League, she is excited to help the Riveters defend the Cup and play in the New York Metropolitan area. The Moundsville, West Virginia native said, “The Riveters reached out to me and gave me a fantastic opportunity to join them. I decided it would be a great fit and I couldn’t pass up the chance to be a Riveter and play in the metropolitan area. This is a strong, competitive organization with a significant partnership with the New Jersey Devils. I am excited to become a part of it and defend the Isobel Cup. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, move to a new city and get the season started.” She continued, “I’d like to thank my Beauts teammates and the entire Beauts family for welcoming me and helping me grow as a professional hockey player. We formed great friendships that will always make my rookie season in the NWHL a great memory for me. To the fans and the city of Buffalo, thank you for all your support during my first professional season.” During her collegiate career at Adrian College, in Adrian, Michigan, she scored 90 goals and 89 assists in 111 games. She was nominated National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Woman of the Year during her senior season. The award honors graduating female student-athletes for academic and athletic achievement, service and leadership. Lewicki helped lead Adrian College to the Division III Title Game that same season, with 32 goals and 34 assists. The Riveters will open the season on the road, at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul, Minnesota with a pair of games against the newest franchise, the Minnesota Whitecaps, on Saturday October 6 and Sunday October 7. The same Whitecaps will be at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, New Jersey for the Riveters opening weekend on Saturday October 20 and Sunday October 21.
