Metropolitan Riveters Sign St Cloud State University Defender, Lexi Slattery

The Metropolitan Riveters announced on Tuesday that they signed St. Cloud State defender, Lexi Slattery for the 2018-2019 National Women’s Hockey League season.

Slattery played the last two seasons for the Huskies, after transferring from Providence College. In 71 games at the St. Cloud, Minnesota school she put up nine goals and 14 assists. She also scored two goals and 19 assists in 54 games with the Friars.

The Hugo, Minnesota native scored 17 goals and 33 assists in 71 high school games during her time at Centennial High School and Roseville High School.

Slattery said, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the NWHL. I am excited for the chance to play at the next level with some of the best players out there, and it is an honor to be able to join such a strong organization as the Riveters. Not only is it an exciting time to be a part of the league as it grows, but it is also an important time for the top-level players to continue to join the NWHL and continue to develop it.”

She went on to add, “Growing up this wasn’t even a possibility, so to be a part of something so big and monumental is really special. Girls can grow up aspiring to do something that we never thought we could, and that is powerful and means a lot to me. I have a really big love for the game.”

Slattery joins her St. Cloud State teammate, and Isobel Cup Playoff Most Valuable Player, Katie Fitzgerald on the Riveters as they prepare to defend the Cup this season.

She represented IF Sundvall/Timra of the Svenska Damhockey Ligan, which translates in English to the Swedish Women’s Hockey League during the 2016-2017 season. In 22 games in the SDHL, the five-foot-six, puck moving defender scored one goal and nine assists.

She said, “I consider myself an offensive defenseman who likes to get in the action when I can join the rush. I hope to bring good energy and a competitive nature to the team. I hope to add to the depth of the team and show my passion for the game on and off the ice.”
