Mets Trying To Set Tone For 2nd Half

Well the second half of the Mets season begins tonight in San Francisco. The lineup will be as follows: Pagan-RF, Cora-2B, Wright-3B, Beltran-CF, Davis-1B, Bay-LF, Thole-C, Tejada-SS, Dickey-RHP. Jose Reyes was scratched from the lineup around 5:30pm EST. Jerry Manuel says he is not ready to hit from the left side but should be in the lineup tomorrow night.

Mets fans and certainly Mets staff will be keeping a close eye on Carlos Beltran in centerfield. Beltran makes his first MLB start of the season for the Mets tonight after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Even though Beltran claims his knee feels better than ever, Mets manager Jerry Manuel says he will keep a close eye on him and also make sure he is not rushed back into playing every day.

The other interesting thing to watch tonight is the pitching matchup. The Mets send knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to the mound to square off against 2009 Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum. Even though Lincecum’s walks are up this year, his 4 seam fastball still averages at 94 mph and has an E.R.A. of 3.19. Look for the Mets to try and score a few early runs off of Lincecum because once he gets settled in it can be very hard to beat him.

This four game series in San Francisco is a very important series for the Mets to win as they look to get momentum is the right direction.
