Mets Woes Continue: Slip Into 3rd Place

Last night the Mets sent Hisanori Takahashi to the mound to face Matt Cain and the Giants. Takahashi had a disgraceful outing allowing 6 runs in only 2 2/3 innings.

When the Mets GM Omar Minaya will get the hint and pick up a starting pitcher remains to be seen. It is quite clear that Takahashi needs to be returned to the bullpen. Manager Jerry Manuel has done everything short of holding a sign in the dugout saying he needs a pitcher.

With the brutal loss last night, the Mets have fallen behind the Phillies and into third place in the NL East. The only positive note for the Mets last night was the fact that their offense woke up a little bit.

Rookie first baseman Ike Davis, who has been struggling of late hit 2 homeruns. Beltran, Wright, Carter, and Thole also got some hits. The Mets went 24 straight innings without scoring a run before last night.

The Mets will have their ace Johan Santana pitching Sunday against Jonathan Sanchez. The Mets desperately need a strong outing from Santana today as they try and avoid the 4 game sweep and head into Arizona on some sort of positive note.

New York needs to start winning games in order to keep this season from spiraling out of control. It will be interesting to see who the Mets will go after as far as a starting pitcher.
