New York Knicks Are Real. Despite Loss, Knicks Show They Belong.

In one of the best basketball games in a long time at The Garden, Stoudemire and the Knicks show they can play with the big boys.

Sure, the end result was not what they wanted, not the fans, not the players. The New York Knicks needed an extra tenth of a second.

Amare Stoudemire’s last second shot was to late and the Knicks could not pull off the dramatic win over the Boston Celtics last night at The Garden.

New York has nothing to be ashamed of. This one of the best basketball games the NBA has seen in some time. The Knicks – Celtics rivalry is one of the best in sports. It must be a New York and Boston thing. This rivalry is up there with the Yankees and Red Sox in baseball.

For years, the rivalry had been one sided. Last night, the Knicks showed the world they are back and can play with the big boys.

Madison Square Garden was electric. The world most famous arena had not been that energized in quite some time. The Knicks are finally giving the city of New York exciting basketball once again.

Stoudemire was brilliant throughout. The big man scored 39 points on 15-0f-22 shooting. He also grabbed ten rebounds and blocked three shots. Stoudemire continued his MVP-caliber season and the Garden fans let him know it with chants of M-V-P.

He also stepped up and played some defense. Stoudemire has become a true leader for the Knicks. His reputation has always been that of a poor defensive player. This season, he is proving otherwise. Maybe he knows how much this team needs him.

Whatever it is, Stoudemire gave the Celtics all he had.

Raymond Felton played a great game as well, finishing with 26 points and 14 assists. The point guard made big shots when he needed to. Wilson Chandler added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Danilo Gallinari was shut out in the first half and at times looked he did not belong on the court. In the second half he was a different player. Gallinari got the Garden crowd up in it’s feet with a couple big time dunks. He finished with 20 points.

Boston led 7-5 and did not lead again until they took a 116-113 advantage late in the game. The Knicks tied it at 116 with 50 seconds to go. Paul Pierce was the thorn in the Knicks side all night. Pierce finished with 32 points and 10 rebounds. He hit the eventual game winner with .4 left on the clock, a jumper over Stoudemire.

New York tried a last second shot, a three from Stoudemire that went in. The crowd exploded, thinking they had finished off this classic game with a dramatic ending. Unfortunately, the officials ruled the shot did not leave Stoudemire’s fingers in time. The replay showed the same. The right call.

With that, the Knicks winning streak ended at eight games. They are now 16-10 on the year, in second place in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division.

Despite the loss, the Knicks showed basketball is alive and well in New York once again. These Knicks can play with the big boys of the NBA. This is indeed a playoff caliber basketball team.

Their second showdown of the week is tomorrow night at The Garden when NBA diva himself, LeBron James and the Miami Heat come to town. You know the New York fans want to win this game and show LeBron what he is missing.

One thing is for sure, New York – Boston basketball is back, and you don’t want to miss it.
