Two fan favorites were given one day contracts by the New York Giants so they could retire as members of this great franchise.

David Tyree and Ike Hilliard.

Both players have fond memories of their playing days with the Giants and they were not afraid to talk about it.

Tyree had his “greatest memories” with the team and Hilliard said playing with the Giants was “more special to me than anything in my professional career.”

David Tyree played five seasons with the Giants, mostly as a special teams specialist. His finest moment however is one Giants fans will never forget. It was “The Catch.”

His 32-yard reception with Patriots safety Rodney Harrison hanging all over him in Super Bowl XLII has been called the best catch in Super Bowl history by some people. It allowed the Giants to keep a drive alive that eventually ended with Eli Manning connecting with Plaxico Burress for a game-winning touchdown.

The following offseason, Tyree suffered a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve and eventually cut from the roster. He would go on to play ten games for the Baltimore Ravens special  teams squad.

He was back for one day, as a New York Giants. A player that will forever be rememberd by one catch. What a big one it was.

Ike Hilliard was always a favorite of mine. Always a guy that gave 100% effort 100% of the time, Hilliard had some fine seasons for Big Blue.

The Giants drafted Hilliard seventh overall in 1997. He would play eight seasons with the team, before playing his final four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hilliard’s 368 receptions rank fifth in franchise history. His biggest was possibly a 46 yard touchdown catch that set the tone for the teams 41-0 NFC Championship Game victory over the Minnesota Vikings in 2001.

Over his career, Hilliard would record 6,397 yards and 35 touchdowns. The wide out has battled injuries throughout his career. In total, Hilliard underwent eight surgeries in his 12 year career.

Hilliard is now an assistant coach for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL.

These two men will be remembered as players that played their heart out for the Giants organization and Double G Sports wishes them luck in the future.
