Baseball Patriots Can’t Hang On And Lose 6-5 To York In 13 Innings by Somerset Patriots May 30, 2016 York, PA – With the bases loaded and no one out, Josh Wilson connected on a walk-off RBI single in the 13th inning to propel the York Revolution (23-15) past the Somerset Patriots (21-17) 6-5 Monday evening from PeoplesBank Park. It was Somerset’s first extra inning loss in five tries this season. “Even when we were winning we have faced adversity and it’s no different now,” remarked Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie, whose squad just dropped its third straight series. “We have a few too many guys trying to do too much right now. If everybody just does their business it will all start coming together.” The Patriots drew five walks within the first two innings and ultimately cashed in when Eric Farris coaxed a bases loaded walk to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the home half of the second, York tallied three runs against Shaun Garceau, who was making his Somerset debut. Charley Thurber clubbed an RBI double, Michael Rockett hit an RBI sacrifice fly and another run was plated via a wild pitch. With the Patriots trailing 3-1 heading into the third inning, the visitors battled to score three times and regain the lead at 4-3. Brad Snyder blasted a home run (4), while Rob Kral and Aharon Eggleston each drilled RBI singles. Carlos Guzman, who had one home run in his first 26 games, picked up his third home run (4) in his last seven contests by hammering a solo shot to increase the Patriots advantage to 5-3 in the fifth inning. Garceau would surrender a pair of singles to start the fifth before the bullpen took over. Relievers Mike Thomas and Gus Schlosser allowed the inherited runners to score. Keith Castillo roped an RBI single and Wilson picked up an RBI sacrifice fly. Garceau earned the no decision in his Somerset debut hurling five innings while giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out two and walked one in 74 pitches. Both bullpens would fire zeros from the seventh inning until the bottom of the 13th inning. Somerset’s best chance to break the tie was in the 10th inning when they had runners on second and third with one out and bases loaded with two outs, but came up empty. In the 10th inning the game featured a 38-minute rain delay. Frank Gailey (1-0) earned the win, tossing three perfect relief innings. Donovan Hand (0-1) suffered the loss as he failed to retire any of the four batters he faced. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, June 3rd for a 7:05 p.m. game against Bridgeport Bluefish.
