Patriots Complete Sweep Of Blue Crabs With 5-4 Win

76kellyscoringwebWaldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (3-0, 41-32) bullpen tossed 4.2 scoreless innings and Trayvon Robinson clubbed the go ahead home run (9) in the sixth inning to propel the visitors to a three-game sweep of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (0-3, 26-46) Wednesday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.

“This is how the bullpen should be,” said closer Jon Hunton as the bullpen has logged 24.2 innings and only yielded one run during the teams five game winning streak. “We were all bitter about how the first half ended. We had a really good series. Everyone contributed and we played with a lot of fire.”

The Patriots opened the first inning with four straight singles. All-Star Bryan LaHair ripped an RBI single while Robinson added an RBI sacrifice fly to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.

The lead would be short lived as D’Arby Myers slugged a home run (4) in the first inning and All-Star Jamar Walton connected on an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning to even the score at 2-2.

In the top of the fifth inning All-Star Aharon Eggleston recorded an RBI double and LaHair added an RBI single.

The two-run cushion only lasted for a half a frame as Myers hit a two-run single in the ensuing half inning to tie the contest at 4-4.

Leading off the sixth inning, Robinson socked a home run to make the score 5-4 which would be the final. In 89 games last year he only hit three home runs, but he has nine home runs in 57 games this year.

“I was really sick yesterday and [Brett] Jodie allowed me to miss the game and get my rest in the hotel,” Robinson remarked. “I woke up today with so much more energy and was just thankful for a new day and I was excited to help out. I heard we had a great win last night and it’s fun to keep all this positive stuff going.”

Connor Little (4-0) earned the win throwing 1.2 scoreless innings. Gaby Hernandez (1-6) suffered the loss yielding five runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings. Hunton notched the save (19) as he is now 12-for-12 in his last 12 save opportunities.
