Patriots Salvage Series Finale Over Ducks 3-1

84millerwebBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (13-14, 51-46) defeated the Long Island Ducks (15-10, 55-40) 3-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday afternoon to take the series finale.

The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by David Vidal and an RBI single by Brian Van Kirk.

“I was just being aggressive and looking for something up in the zone. He left a slider up and I was able to put a good swing on it,” said Vidal.

The Ducks scored their lone run in the third inning on an RBI double by Delta Cleary Jr. that made the score the 3-1 final.

Bryce Morrow (3-2) picked up the win with 1.1 innings pitched.  Dustin Richardson (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on ten hits in five innings pitched. Jon Hunton shut the door in the ninth to earn his 25th save of the season.

“It feels good because they’re a good team. They can pitch, they can hit and do all types of stuff. It’s good to go ahead on them like that and hold the lead to get the win,” Vidal added.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, August 12th when they return home to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for a 7:05 pm game.
