PJ Conlon and Vinny Siena Called Up to St. Lucie Mets

With top prospect Amed Rosario being promoted to Binghamton on Thursday, the St. Lucie Mets got some new faces in LHP PJ Conlon and 2B Vinny Siena. They were taken one round apart in the 2015 draft and on Thursday, one year later, Siena and Conlon were called up to St. Lucie.

Conlon was taken in the 13th round out of the University of San Diego and Siena was taken in the 14th round out of the University of Connecticut. They both have excelled for the Columbia Fireflies, this led to them representing the team in the South Atlantic League All Star Game on June 21st. Siena started at 2B and Conlon was the south’s starting pitcher.

During his time in Columbia, Siena hit .291 with 13 RBI and eight SB. He led the league in OBP with a .435 average and was second in the South Atlantic league in walks (51) and runs (53). He has the makings of a solid defensive second baseman that will constantly be on the base paths. Since his call up he has gone 2-9 with two BB and one SB.

Colon was almost unhittable in Columbia. He led the league with eight wins and a 1.34 ERA. He also had 61 SO and only 10 walks in 78 1/3 innings pitched. His most impressive start of the season came on June 4 when he needed only 98 pitches to throw 10 scoreless innings of four-hit baseball against the Hagerstown Suns.

Colon is a finesse lefty that uses a low 90s fastball, curve, slider, and a changeup to keep hitters off balance. He has the ability to throw all four of his pitches for strikes with excellent control.

In his first start for St. Lucie on Friday he pitched seven innings while limiting Palm Beach to two ER on seven hits and striking out three in 99 pitches.

Siena and Conlon are talented prospects that should help the St. Lucie Mets on the field and continue to move up the Mets organization.
