Rangers Send Dylan McIlrath to Florida For Steven Kampfer and Conditional Draft Pick

A little over a week after Dylan McIlrath was put on waivers and sent back to the Hartford Wolf Pack the Rangers have traded him to the Florida Panthers, a move the Rangers were lucky to be able to make after no one initially claimed McIlrath off of waivers.

In return from the Panthers the Rangers received Steven Kampfer and a 2018 conditional seventh round pick in the NHL Draft. The condition being that McIlrath plays at least 30 games this season otherwise the Rangers do not get the pick.

Kampfer may or may not be a name you recognize because he was actually a member of the Rangers not too long ago in 2014 but was traded away back then.

There’s a good chance Florida limits his playing time to avoid that 30 game mark but as of right now this is two more pieces than the Rangers thought they would be able to get for McIlrath 12 days ago. It’s a sad split between the Rangers and McIlrath because there was high hopes for him but now that he is off of the team both he and the Rangers can move on and hopefully have success on and off of the ice.
