Feature Red Bulls Make History with Victory by Staff Post October 20, 2015 Luis Robles (Photo by Catalina Fragoso – DoubleGSports) En route to their victory on Sunday, the Red Bulls set a few records while clinching the top spot in MLS’ Eastern Conference standings. From goals to wins, it was an historic day for the New York Red Bulls franchise. It only took seven seconds to make history with Mike Grella scoring right away for the Red Bulls. Grella’s goal is the fastest ever scored in MLS history. While this is a pretty fun tidbit of trivia for Grella and the Red Bulls to own, I look forward to seeing if this will ever be beaten by Grella or any other player — it would be very difficult to top a seven- second goal! In addition to MLS history, the Red Bulls set a franchise mark of their own as well. This year’s team won more games at home than any other Red Bulls/Metro Stars team had before with 12 victories at Red Bull Arena, breaking the previous record which stood at 11. The win — number 17 on the season — also ties a club record for wins in a year. That means if the Red Bulls can defeat Chicago in their final game of the season they can wrap up the greatest regular season in franchise history and still possibly win the Supporters Shied! Not too bad for a team supposedly in a rebuilding season. Wrapping up the Eastern Conference is also a major step for the Red Bulls as they won’t have to deal with the first round of the playoffs and will go right to the Eastern Conference semifinals. No doubt the extra rest will be good for the team heading into the playoffs. With the victory Luis Robles is now the all time leader in wins for a Red Bulls goalie with 49 and is just seven starts away from tying the MLS record for most consecutive games played! It’s already been a tremendous regular season for the Red Bulls, and yet they’re just one more win away from making this a season they will never forget. Tune in to MSG on Sunday at 5:00 PM for the opportunity to witness Red Bulls history as they go for their most ever wins in a season and the coveted Supporters Shield in the lead up to the playoffs!
