EAST HANOVER, NJ – Not a lot is going right for the Devils in the early going. Along with being winless in the first three games, veteran forward, Jordin Tootoo was slapped with a fine today when he tripped Nashville defenseman, Seth Jones in the team’s 3-1 loss on Tuesday.

The fine levies a penalty of $2,217.14. It is the maximum allowable amount, under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It was the first fine handed out by the NHL Safety Department so far, this season.

The play came at 7:55 of the third period when Jones was attempting to play a puck near the boards, in his defensive zone. Tootoo tripped Jones from behind with his foot, forcing him to crash into the boards. He was not hurt on the play. A minor penalty was called on the trip, but the Devils penalty kill did not allow a goal on the two-minute infraction.

The Devil’s (0-3) next game is against their former coach, Pete DeBoer and his San Jose Sharks (3-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday night, at the Prudential Center.
