Riveters Forward Madison Packer Shares Final Player of Week Honors with Beauts Defender Sarah Edney

Metropolitan Riveters forward, Madison Packer split the final player of the week honors with Buffalo Beauts defender, Sarah Edney the National Women’s Hockey League announced on Monday.

Packer had a hat trick in her team’s 4-1 victory of the Boston Pride on Saturday night. The hat trick, on the International Ice Hockey Federation Continuous Global Girls’ Game, at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, helped Packer capture the NWHL goal scoring title for the 2017-2018 season.

In 12 games this past season, Packer put up 10 goals and eight assists for NWHL Regular Season Champion, Riveters. She said, “It was a team victory all around on Saturday. My teammates made a lot of good plays to get me the puck, and I think most of the credit goes to them for having the vision to make the plays on the ice.”

Riveters Host Whale Isobel Cup Playoffs: Sunday March 18, 7 PM at RWJ Hockey House

Next up for the Riveters, they will host the Connecticut Whale on Sunday, March 18 at 7:00 at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, New Jersey. The top seeded Riveters with 13 victories in 16 games this season will look to advance to their first Isobel Cup Final during the weekend of March 24 or 25.

If they defeat the Whale on Sunday, they would host the one game winner take all Isobel Cup Final next week. For tickets to the Semi-Final fans can go to www.nwhl.zone/tickets.

Packer added, “It was good to get a win under our belt and regain some confidence going into the playoffs. Connecticut is a good team, and it is always a grind playing them. The Isobel Cup Playoffs are a fresh start for everyone. We can’t overlook or take any team for granted, and we a preparing this week for a hard, gritty game on Sunday.”

The former Wisconsin star helped Team USA capture the gold at the 2008 and 2009 IIHF U18 World Championships.

Edney, netted two goals in the Beauts 4-1 victory over the Whale, in Connecticut’s home finale at Terry Conner Ice Rink in Stamford, Connecticut on Saturday night. The victory was the Beauts’ 10th straight as they head into the playoffs as the number two seed and will host the Pride at 5:30 PM on Saturday, March 17th at HarborCenter in Buffalo, New York.
