The New York Riveters announced on Tuesday that they have signed Rebecca Russo to a one-year, 13,000-dollar contract for the 2016-2017 National Women’s Hockey League season.

In 144 games with Boston University, Russo scored 37 goals and 48 assists. The Westport, Connecticut native had put up career highs in goals (15) and assists (23) during her senior season.

Russo said, “I am very excited to be a member of the 2016-2017 New York Riveters team, and I am grateful to continue my dream of playing hockey after college on the professional level. I am honored to have signed with this league and happy that women’s hockey is recognized at such an elite level.”

During the summer of 2011, she represented USA Hockey’s Under-18 at the summer series against Team Canada.

Russo added, “My new teammates are a group of extremely talented women and it is very exciting for me to be reunited with some former teammates from Boston University and Shattuck Saint Mary. I can’t wait for the season to get underway. Thanks to the NWHL for providing me with this opportunity.”

Russo joins fellow Terrier, Kaleigh Fratkin on the Riveters for the upcoming NWHL season.
