He may be playing for the New York Mets now, and loved by New Yorkers, but folks in Las Vegas are talking about their beloved ’51’ claiming the top rookie honor.  Amed Rosario just got that honor by beating his former teammate, Dominic Smith, to win the Pacific Coast League’s Rookie of the Year! Rosario is the first Las Vegas player to claim that award since 1998.

Rosario was the Mets’ top prospect entering the season, and it’s no surprise he’s landed in New York.  On Media Day, if there was one player who stood out in the crowd, it was Rosario.  It was obvious he was destined for the Big Leagues.  Prior to his move to New York, he played in 94 games with the 51s and hit .328 (129-393), with seven home runs, 58 RBIs, 66 runs, and nineteen stolen bases.

While it’s no surprise that Rosario is doing great things, what might be of surprise is he’s got five years of professional baseball under his belt, and he’s only 21 years old.  Since Rosario was called up to the Mets he has proved to be a game changer.  Recently he was responsible for a tie breaking home run in a game against the Nationals last Sunday.

The Mets head to Houston after a stint in Cincinnati.  Rosario will likely be a force against the Astros, but nothing like what the City of Houston has seen this past week.  Hopefully, baseball will bring the community together, like it always does, in times such as these.
