The Yankees have acquired minor league catcher Erik Kratz from the Cleveland Indians early Thursday afternoon in exchange for cash considerations.

The 37 year old has played in 86 games with Triple-A Columbus this season, hitting .270/.359/.472 with 38 runs, 16 doubles, 1 triple, 37 RBI, 32 BB and to top it all off, 13 HR. He has played in 225 major-league games over seven seasons with experience on several teams.  He last spent time in the majors in July of 2016 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Kratz was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 29th round of the 2002 MLB June Amateur Draft that took place at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. Since then, he’s spent some time with the Pirates (2010, ‘16), Philadelphia Phillies (2011-13, ‘15), Toronto Blue Jays (2014), Kansas City Royals (2014-15) and Houston Astros (2016).

Overall, the Pennsylvania native has a .200 career average (120-599) with 55 runs, 25 doubles, 24 homers and 73 RBI.

The Yankees have yet to add Kratz to the 40-man roster.  It is assumed he will be brought up to the Bronx when MLB rosters expand to 40 players on Friday.
