Baseball SI Yankees Lose to Cyclones For First Time This Season by Staff Post July 26, 2016 (Photo by Double G Media) The Staten Island Yankees suffered their first loss of the season against the Cyclones, Sunday afternoon. Thomas Szapucki was dominant of the mound for the Cyclones, not allowing any runs in 5.1 innings and striking out eight Yankee batters. Szapucki received his first win of the season. Four Cyclones relievers combined for 3.2 innings of shut out pitching, en route to a Cyclones 3-0 victory. On the losing end was Simon De la Rosa, who went 4.2 innings pitched allowing two runs (one earned). He is now 3-2 on the year. The Cyclones got on the board in the bottom of the second after a walk, wild pitch, an error, and a single by Jay Jabs scored one run. The Cyclones would score again in the fifth and sixth inning on singles by Michael Paez and Desmond Lindsay. That is all they would need as the red-hot Yankees bats went cold. Overall, Yankee batters struck out 13 times on the day. Their only four hits came from Drew Bridges, Angel Aguilar, and Kendall Coleman, who was 2-4. The Yankees are now 21-15 on the season and only cling to a one game advantage over the Hudson Valley Renegades. After Monday night’s game was postponed due to weather, the Yankees look to come back strong against the Cyclones in a double-header today in Brooklyn.
